Tubal Cain

My most recent trip was out to Tubal Cain. This hike was a nice easy grade with a little up and down that went about 8 miles round trip. This is a popular hike due to it's ease of access for a day hike or a 3-5 day backpacking trip. There are a lot of great views, tons of rhododendrons, and lots of nice meadows and river crossings. You can look at the old mine or stay in the multitude of campsites beyond there. There's also an old world war 1 crashed airplane that we didn't get to see as it was up the canyon path further than we wanted to go. There is a lot of damage from people with hatchets and people not following the leave no trace practice, especially at the camp sites, which was disappointing. There was also a sign warning of recent break ins to cars, though we were lucky enough to not have that happen to us. The other thing to be aware of is that hunting is allowed on this trail, so bringing a bright colored coat would be advisable. It was definitely a great trail despite all of that though, and I'm looking forward to my next trip there.
